Destinations is a Flash widget that enables the user to enter their location and see how far they are from some of the World's great cities. Destinations integrates the Google Maps API, allowing calculation of the distance and direction between two locations, or cities in this case. The widget uses an interstate sign analogy and the 3d capabilities now available in Flash Player 10. The sign spins in a circle to reveal the new "state" it has changed to. Also, a built-in help section, complete with contact info, is included. Destinations calls the Google Maps server with the city and user locations, which returns distance calculations. The direction for each city is determined using the returned longitude property, determining if the world city is to the right or left of the user location. Clicking on a city button displays city info including a map, description, and Google/Wikipedia links.
